SOUTH FREMANTLE POWER STATION
THE
POWERHOUSE ROCKS
A public conversation about giving an extraordinary piece of South Fremantle a new life.
INTRODUCTION
Hi and welcome to Powerhouse Rocks “ The new beach community of Rock and Soul for Western Australia “
“I arrived in God’s own country, South Freo, 15 years ago and since my arrival have been passionate, as I know the whole community is, about rebuilding the Power Station — it’s in a Geordie’s DNA.
I first made a bid on my arrival but it was a precondition that the railway line to the rear of SFPS was reopened to passenger transport, giving a 30-minute trip to the CBD possible. That precondition appeared to be beyond the wit of man, so I withdrew my offer. It still makes sense to keep it as a precondition.
In 2021 there was another “opportunity”. I considered it then and still do a “stitch-up”. Given only 14 days to prepare and submit a bid, we still managed. It was no surprise when the “winners” were announced. Then, two years later, the deal fell over. Now, two years later, it remains forlorn and desolate. It is a tragedy.
On this site you will find the 2021 rushed document we produced, a discussion document for today and a place to give me your ideas and demands. I am optimistic and naïve enough to believe that, with enough public support and pressure, the politicians will get on board and we can deliver a team to produce something extra special.”
